Person of the Year

Liz Tyndorf, 2025 Person of the Year

Liz Tyndorf

The following is the excerpt from the congratulatory speech given by President/CEO Michelle Crispin at the Best of Hermosa Awards 2025:

"This award honors someone who exemplifies what it means to be a true community leader. When this person sees a need, she doesn’t hesitate - she activates, rallying others and inspiring action. The impact of her work is undeniable, and her ability to bring people together is truly remarkable. I had the privilege of experiencing this firsthand on January 11th at Guidestone Church. I stood in awe, surrounded by hundreds of volunteers and a mountain of donated supplies, all driven by a shared mission to help victims of the LA wildfires. That moment moved me to tears. It was a testament to this person's ability to inspire an entire community to mobilize and help others.

But that’s just one example of what she does. Her dedication to service has earned her 'Sandpiper of the Year', she has fundraised thousands of dollars for Education funds, she’s a Board Member for the Hermosa Foundation, and co-founder of Hermosa Hermanos, a volunteer organization empowering young men in high school to give back to their community.

She balances all of this while being a loving wife, mother of twin sons, and a wonderful friend to many. There is simply no one more deserving of this honor."

1959 - current

A long standing Hermosa tradition, the Chamber has been recognizing extraordinary citizens in Hermosa for many decades. This award goes to residents who go above and beyond for their Hermosa community—a  Lifetime Achievement award. Someone who volunteers their time and talent to make the Hermosa Beach community an outstanding place to live, play and work. The following are the criteria:

  • Contributes significant time, energy and spirit in fields outside his or her professional life, without regard to personal gain.
  • Civic and community service goes beyond “normal” responsibilities.
  • Creates a lasting and beneficial impact for all Hermosa Beach residents.
  • Actively participates in service, community, church or other organizations.
  • Living, reside or have a business in the Hermosa Beach area and possess excellent personal character.
  • Previous recipients are not eligible. Job-related tasks or duties for which nominees are paid do not qualify.

Note: From 1959 to 2019, the community selected both a man and woman each year. In 2022 the tradition changed to a singular person.
